Adipotide, also known as Prohibitin-Targeting Peptide 1 (Prohibitin-TP01), is an anti-obesity peptide developed by researchers at MD Anderson Cancer Center and Rutgers University. It specifically targets and destroys the blood vessels supplying white adipose tissue, leading to the death of fat cells. Adipotide has shown promising results in preclinical studies, with obese mice losing approximately 30% of their body weight over four weeks. The compound is administered via subcutaneous injection, with a daily dose of 0.43 mg/kg being optimal for spontaneously obese macaques. However, it has faced safety concerns, particularly regarding kidney toxicity, which has stalled its clinical development.
